Happy Independence Day! Independence is something many of us take for granted. Did you know there is a section of the transition plan in your teenager’s IEP dedicated to independent living skills? It’s often labeled “optional,” even though independence is one of the most important skills a child can learn. What will your child need to succeed as an independent adult? What will independence look like for your child? Your child’s IEP team should be discussing these questions with you, and the earlier the better!
