Audio Recording đđ§
One of your rights as a parent is to audio record your childâs IEP meetings. There are a variety of reasons to record:
â¨A recording can keep your childâs second parent in the loop if they miss the meeting,
â¨A recording can be used to cross check the notes on the IEP,
â¨A recording can bring an attorney or advocate into the loop after the fact.
You never know when you might need to go back and reference what was discussed in an IEP meeting! If you have a meeting coming up, send an email to your childâs case manager no later than 24 hours before the meeting to let them know you plan to audio record. If possible, donât use your phone to record! Most phones have a recording device, but it can be accidentally interrupted by a phone call or FaceTime. Some phones also have limited memory, and if a meeting goes long you could end up missing part of the meeting. And, after you record, be sure to back up the recording on your computer. This will make it easier to find later on, and it also prevents any accidental deletions. If you have questions about audio recordings, reach out to us today!
