While I was teaching high school in a moderate/severe special education class, we focused a great deal on functional skills. To the untrained eye, someone may have only seen my students participating in cleaning and cooking activities. But, when we worked on functional skills, we also focused on so much more: following multiple step directions, sensory input, gross/fine motor skills, measurement, time management, and more! While your child is participating in distance learning, don’t be afraid to involve them in the process of caring for your home. There is so much they can learn, and there are ways to incorporate IEP goals! Do you have any ideas other than what I’ve listed? Please share them in the comments!
