Homeschool Advantage

With distance learning set to begin for schools over the next several days (if it hasn’t already), parents may feel some anxiety regarding how to suddenly become a special education teacher. The good news is, you aren’t alone! You have a team of educators behind you who want to see you, and your child, succeed. Instead of worrying about what your child may miss out on by not being at school, shift your thinking to what advantages your child has by learning at home with you. Are there activities of daily living that you can use to incorporate the practice of IEP goals? Can you let your child help you build their “schedule” to increase independence and buy-in? Don’t be afraid to reach out to your child’s IEP team with questions and concerns. And, if your team needs help brainstorming, I would be happy to help!
